What is Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual Direction is a very different kind of space... different than anything I'd ever experienced! Not in friendship, counseling, or even in some of my most intimate or deeply connected dating relationships had I ever been listened to so intently.  I didn't have...

The Critical Journey: When the Dance Stops Working

Understanding Stages of Faith theory was a helpful framework for me in processing past joys and present pains. I felt less alone. It gave me hope for healing in the future as I continued along faith's path. What many authors write about, I experienced. The early...

Growing in Self-Awareness and Acceptance

Self-awareness is a lifelong journey of noticing what’s happening within us... in our thoughts, emotions, and physical experiences. Alongside that work, we learn to meet ourselves with honesty and compassion. As we continue to grow, here are a few gentle questions to...

Examen-ing your life

Use an examen prayer practice to help you pay attention to God’s invitations and activity in your ordinary life.

Breath Prayers

A breath prayer is exactly what it sounds like. A prayer you breathe. And as often as you become aware of your breathing, you can incorporate your own personal breath prayer. This way of breathing is embodied, biblical and accessible. They can be used...

Labyrinth: A Way to Pray

A labyrinth is a physical way to pray, and for me personally a picture of the spiritual journey. It’s not a maze, it has a center and one way to get there. There are two movements, toward and away. When you're prayer-walking a labyrinth, it often doesn’t feel like...

Finding Peace in Pause

I’ve shifted from structured Bible study to a quieter, more open approach.

Spiritual Director

creating space where people can be more real with themselves and let God be more real to them

Monica offers spiritual direction online and in person. She feels most alive coming alongside others on their spiritual journeys, meeting them wherever they are, drawing on her own experience with doubts and questions, the Enneagram, and a trauma-informed, resiliency-focused approach. Ultimately, her goal is to create space where people can be more real with themselves and let God be more real to them.

Monica’s faith journey has moved from a multi-faith upbringing to a college-aged evangelical conversion, and now into a liturgical stream that weaves in contemplative practices. Holding master’s degrees in Teaching and Christian Spiritual Formation, she also serves as a chaplain to young adults experiencing homelessness in her city.

She’s married and has two teens navigating the threshold of adulthood, with one off to college, the other at home. She enjoys jazz, daily dog walks through her local cemetery, and is embracing her sourdough-baking era.
